We were selected to work on a competition for Platowood to design the facade for a office pavilion at their factory. The company turns regular pine, frake, and poplar wood into durable wood for the building industry. In order to do this, the wood is put in a pressurized steam cabin and baked in an oven. Instead of designing a decorative facade using the existing boards, we studied the factory's process in order to intervene somewhere along the line. We ended up designing a way of stacking the wood before it gets steamed in such a way that wave-like planks emerge with a curve. Not much has to be done, contrary to traditional steam-bending processes, except stack the wood in a different manner.
